Inside the Strawberry Moon Society
Fan Interview ★ C.L. Wages ★ @soundslikecl ★ 1.3k words
Hello there! My name is C.L. and I have been on a journey to discover why people love their favorite artists/bands and our topic for today is Miss Hannah Wicklund who has been paving a way for women in rock for a couple of years now! I took on the task of interviewing a couple of different Hannah Wicklund fans, asking the following questions:
What was your first interaction/introduction to Hannah’s Music?
What is your favorite song and why? Do the lyrics hold more weight or is it the music?
Has finding your favorite artist changed your life? In what ways?
Why do you feel connected to this specific artist?
What does being a part of the Strawberry Moon Society mean to you?

Meet our first interviewee: Anna. Here's her story:
My name is Anna, I’m 22 years old and have an intense passion for all things music.
I learned about Hannah through Greta Van Fleet, the first song I listened to was Bomb Through The Breeze. My favorite song of Hannah’s is Songbird Sing off her record The Prize. For me, Songbird Sing is about the constant need for acceptance and false satisfaction through services done for others. Even though afterwards, you know you’re going to feel unfulfilled because all you want is to be loved, and not used. The second I hear the birds chirping at the start of the song, mixed with the first chord of her guitar, it evokes such a strong emotion from within, and even more so when she performs it live. The experiences we endure as little girls that follow us into adulthood are daunting, and it's easy to feel alone. The music and community Hannah created has made it less scary.
Now let's hear from our second interviewee: Taylor!
My name is Taylor Reann. I’m 28 years old and I am from Texas. I love listening to music and finding new artists! My Favorite artists are those I can connect with on a deeper level, beyond the lyrics.
My first introduction to Hannah’s music was seeing the behind the scenes for her Witness music video. I immediately fell in love with her energy, she truly captures the essence of a powerful woman.
My favorite songs are Ghost and Witness. The lyrics in both of these songs mean a lot to me, and I feel like I relate to them in more ways than one. These songs make me feel seen and heard in a way few songs do.
Finding Hannah Wicklund has had such a positive impact on my life and ultimately changed my life and the way I view myself and the world around me.
Feeling connected to her is effortless for me. Listening to her music feels like getting a hug from someone who truly knows what you’ve been through, and will love you regardless of that, with no reservations.
Being a part of the Strawberry Moon Society is honestly such an honor. Not only is it a group of fans, it is a community full of support, love, and respect. The SMS is beyond a fan club. It’s a family, and I am so proud and grateful to be a part of something so big.
It truly sounds like something special to be a part of! Now for another take on it. This is Kaylee’s Story:
My name is Kaylee, I am 26, and I work as an EHS Safety and Communication Lead. I am a huge fan of rock music and I love listening to and attending concerts of musicians of all types, from Willie Nelson, to Hannah Wicklund.
My introduction to Hannah was through spotify in 2022. I had recently discovered Greta Van Fleet’s music and found Hannah listed under a Related Artists tab.
My favorite song of Hannah's changes depending on my mood, but I always come back to Hide and Seek. Both the lyrics and the music appeal to me in different ways. I have synesthesia so when listening to the song, I experience a chaotic “lost in a hedge maze” feeling, one that’s more fascinating than scary. I feel that sometimes I’m not the best at communicating my feelings, so screaming along to a song Hannah pours her own feelings into is very therapeutic for me.
I do feel like my life has changed since finding Hannah’s music. I’ve been more inspired than ever to explore my creative side after seeing Hannah dive so passionately into her’s. I feel more empowered as a woman now that I have such a strong modern feminine rock album to be the soundtrack to my life. Not to mention the friends I have made through her music.
I feel connected to Hannah because I see so much of myself in her. When I was a young girl I wanted to be a rockstar, and though that did not end up being my path in life, I’d like to think I’d have been a similar artist to Hannah. Her songs resonate so deeply with my own personal experiences. I feel understood and represented in a way I’ve never felt with any other artist.
This may be an unpopular take, but I’ve never been much of a fan of fanclub names. The label feels too restrictive or exclusive to me. To me, being a fan of Hannah Wicklund means being unafraid of your authentic self, embracing your inner child, and having amazing taste in music!
Last but never least, we’ll hear from Phie, long time fan of Hannah
Hi there! My name is Phie and music is everything to me. I especially love the blues, folk, and good ole rock and roll. I think supporting feminine energy in these spaces is particularly important. My favorite current female artists are, of course, Hannah Wicklund, Odie Liegh, Kaleah Lee and Zberg.
I first heard of her while talking to a friend that I made in line for another bands’ show. I listened to songs like Ghost and Mama Said. She had such raw talent and I was hooked.
My favorite song is Witness. It came to me at a time when I needed it most, and the lyrics were so powerful and inspiring to me. I even got an “Embracing the heartache” tattoo. Sonically, it also stands out beautifully and it’s one of those songs that is so fun to scream in your car or during a show.
Finding new music that speaks to you is always life changing, but finding Hannah’s music helped me heal a part of myself that I didn’t know needed healing. Her record The Prize is something I will hold onto forever in my healing journey.
Her sound draws you in, and her genuine kindness and ability to share her stories to help others find their strength is beyond inspiring. It goes beyond the music with Hannah, she’s truly a badass, and as she’s been dubbed in the past, the ultimate rock and roll fairy princess.
Being a part of the Strawberry Moon Society means I will always have a group of amazing women to lean on. I have met so many good people through Hannah’s music (people who held me while I sobbed during one of her shows), and I so look forward to watching the SMS grow bigger and do amazing things in the future.
Hannah Wicklund certainly seems to be a very important part of these folks’ lives, and as a musician, connection beyond the music makes it so much more than just a fandom. Hannah’s music has done something extraordinary and created a true community. Thank you to each and every participant for opening up to me and sharing your feelings. I always find it so interesting to see why people love their favorite artists and I think I’ve gotten a grasp on why the people truly love Hannah Wicklund.
