Never Ending Fall and The Hails Co-Headline Dallas’ House of Blues

Hey everyone, it’s C.L. again! This past weekend I had the absolute joy of attending The Hails and Never Ending Fall’s show at House of Blues Dallas. The Hails and Never Ending Fall coheadlined and one of my favorite bands, who I tentatively call friends, The Thing With Feathers opened for them. First off, let me say that these guys really know how to put on a show… all of them. They each incorporated their own styles of performing and interacted with the crowd in many ways. I consider myself lucky to have been able to attend.

Starting off, let's talk about the venue. House of Blues Dallas is in the heart of, you guessed it, downtown Dallas. Equipped with stunning decor and many different venue sizing options, this venue was a treat. The show took place in the Cambridge Room, with a cap of 250, folk inspired interior, and a well stocked bar. I’d describe it as small but mighty, and the bands had no issue filling the place to the brim with friends, family, and fans. All in all, this venue was easy to find, kind employees, and had a good selection of alcohol. I wouldn't hesitate in going back. Now onto the show:

The openers, The Thing With Feathers, rarely disappoint and this show was no different. With their set lasting about 45 minutes, they made it feel like hours.

The Thing With Feathers, The Thing With Feathers and Never Ending Fall

They performed seven songs, including a new song that will be released on March 28th called miniskirt. Now I’ll be honest, I wasn’t close to the stage, and I’m rather short so I didn’t see the show so much but rather heard it, and you can hear the passion in how they play. It’s so obvious that these guys love what they do, and their fans love to witness it.

The lead singer, Dave Welcsh, has a great understanding of how to hype up a crowd, and even those who weren’t familiar with their music before this, were dancing and cheering along to their set. Following their time on stage, they didn’t hesitate to join the crowd, grab a drink and support their friends.

The Feathers, as I call them, are such genuine people, including their manager. Alex, who plays lead guitar, won’t hesitate to shoot the shit with you, and neither will their drummer Chris, who is also often found with a smile on his face. To sum it up, The Thing With Feathers knows how to put on a show, and knows how to hype up a crowd and get them ready for whoever follows. (Although I’m certainly ready for another headlining tour).

Following The Thing With Feathers was Never Ending Fall.

Never Ending Fall

Now, I went to the show specifically to see TTWF, but I left with a few new favorite bands. Never Ending Fall is a band that isn’t afraid to truly rock out, and they give every show their all. Since I wasn’t familiar with their music before the show, I can’t really tell you what all they played, however I can say that everything they played I truly enjoyed.

During their set, which was about an hour long, they covered Sex On Fire by Kings of Leon and Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen. I know from some of their fans I talked to during the show they like to cover different songs each show, and I fear they killed it. Don’t Stop Me Now is such a personally special song, and they did amazing.

No one was still during their set, everyone was jumping, singing, dancing, and just having a good time. From the stage they truly radiated fun and passion and it filled the whole room.

Much like TTWF, they joined the crowd after their set, hung out at their merch booth and talked to the fans that came to see them. I was able to talk to them after the show and learned that these guys are such a vibe. Each and everyone of them, despite being tired after their set, were talkative, charismatic and genuinely seemed happy to be there.

I quickly got the nickname “Slut Shirt Girl” as I was wearing a shirt that read “it smells like slut in here” in all caps, which was well received by almost everyone at the show, including Never Ending Fall. This band has so much personality on and off stage. If you haven’t listened to them DO IT, and if you ever get the chance to see them live, once again I say DO IT.

Closing out the show was the ever talented “The Hails” who I’ve decided could be this generation's Pink Floyd.

The Hails

Their songs were smooth and vibey but far from boring. Once again, I can’t tell you the names of the songs, but I can tell you I thoroughly enjoyed the show they put on.

Even live, their sound was clear and distinguished, which can be hard to do in a small venue like that. I wouldn’t be surprised if this time next year their crowd has multiplied, their sound and their talent is undeniably good, and they’re quickly headed to blowing up in my opinion.

These guys truly bring back what it means to be at a rock show, from guitar solos, to crowd surfing, they know how to get into it. Their set lasted about an hour and they truly made the most of it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to talk to the band, but my friend who went to the show with me did, and she recalls them being just as genuine and funny as the other two bands. I hung towards the back of the crowd for their set and just soaked in the music.

Watching the crowd you could just tell that these guys really put their all into a show and expect it back from their audience, and this audience did not disappoint. Despite being the last on stage, they drew the crowd in and pushed them into their second wind, you never would’ve guessed they followed two other acts. They took to the stage and truly made it their own, they rocked it out one last time and really rounded out the show. Their energy wasn't lacking and neither was the crowd’s. I think they mastered the art of ending on a high note.

This show was one that I didn’t want to leave. The venue, the talent, the atmosphere, and the artistry was truly something amazing and I am so happy I got to witness it. I met so many new friends and found two new bands to listen to. I left this show feeling like everyone was my friend, and that doesn’t happen often, the vibes were truly there. It was an experience I will truly never forget.
