CHLOE STAR - WASTED YOUTH (MUSIC VIDEO)

Madison Imlay - @madison_imlay

Chloe Star is a new alt-pop singer on my radar: she is Persian, indigenous, songwriter, visual artist, and a tribal advocate. She often moved around a lot growing up, splitting her time between LA and San Bernardino.

Chloe can be best described as a "bold, evocative, openly queer, and a fierce advocate for female empowerment, she is the definition of a modern day rockstar. Her music is equally defiant, shamelessly blending elements of pop, rock, and punk into a catchy sound that is wholly her own. "

Music video reviews aren't something I often do, but I am so glad this came our way! This video is so informative yet emotional. The song itself is a alt-pop beat that can be very easy to get stuck in your head. It has a upbeat tone that makes you just want to dance; yet the true meaning behind the song is what truly makes this song stand out.

The video seems to follow the story of a emotionally-wrecked teen. The beginning shows a very complicated scene of a concerned parent sending their child to what seems to be a mental health program. It hits even deeper because this video reflects Chloe's actual experience.

It gives a glimpse into that feeling of pure fear and the realization that you've been sent away by an adult in your life; a moment that feels like betrayal and can be overflowing with the unknown.

I also think it's so powerful how it starts in 2024, showing the main character and how she currently is feeling or doing. It shows hope knowing that it gets better eventually after time, but also leaves a slightly darker aura after there's a realization moment that she still struggles with what happened so many years before. Then, as mentioned before, it flashes to the past when this traumatic event happens in her life; before ending back in 2024 showing the trauma that was left behind by her youth, hence the title of the song, "Wasted Youth".

Overall, the video is very very powerful. I think it takes alot of guts to talk on these type of subjects, especially when you have such a deep connection with it. The whole concept of the "troubled teen" can be very debatable and is highly opinionated; yet this helps shine light on the negative affects it can have. It is good that she made it through the situation and came out on the other side, but it also cost her a lot of trauma and more mental battles dealing with what she went through.

I would highly reccomend this video and the song as a whole! If you like alt-pop that also has a highly, deeply rooted meaning then Chloe star is for you.
