Damiano David’s newest song may be a far cry from the usual sound of Måneskin, but it is still a song worthy of hitting repeat. Amidst the hiatus Måneskin has noticeably gone on, lead singer Damiano David released his third solo single, Born With A Broken Heart, on October 25th. The song is a twist of uplifting tones paired with cautious, timid lyrics portraying David’s fears.

While it begins with an abrupt, upbeat rhythm from the start, David’s new song shows a new side of him. One that experiences blending jazz elements to the foundation of all other pop songs.
Born With A Broken Heart is a song with a backbone of exciting rhythms, arpeggios, and patterns. It’s a song that lends itself to wild dancing, as demonstrated in David’s music video.
However, the moment the audience begins to truly listen to the song, a new emotion is flitted through the speakers. Through David’s passionate and raw vocals, the lyrics tell of his personal struggles in accepting a true form of love.
In the beginning, Born With A Broken Heart takes us through a time when David is walking along the line of wanting to find love and sticking close to a familiarity of loneliness.
Next, we are moved into an acknowledgment of someone: a girl. One that we learn feels deeply about David. Yet, the lyrics and rhythm quickly change the tone in the second chorus to the bridge until the whole song becomes this empowered medley of instruments, backing vocals, and David’s vocals to represent
the pure frustration he feels.
The song concludes with a powerful punch as David decides that despite the woman's love, he cannot reciprocate, declaring, “Baby you can’t fix me. I was born with a broken heart.”
David’s new single encapsulates a feeling rooted deep within us all. It’s a feeling that casts a shadow on our heads, but David manages to cushion this reality of brokenness with energized beats and tones, trying to drown out the pain.
